Dubai International Financial Centre Courts establishes a specialized court for the Digital Economy

The DIFC Courts have established a new specialized court for the 'digital economy,' which will deal with complicated civil and commercial disputes in the IT sector. This Specialized Court for the Digital Economy will seek to streamline the resolution of complex civil and commercial disputes involving the digital economy locally and globally. The court will also hear cases involving existing and emerging technologies. According to a release, the new court will handle national and international issues involving existing and developing technologies such as big data, blockchain, artificial intelligence, cloud services, unmanned aerial vehicles, 3D printing technology, and robots. Artificial Intelligence, blockchain technology, big data, cloud services, unmanned aerial vehicles, 3D printing technologies, and robotics will be covered.

The new court is part of Dubai's efforts to remain competitive in the quickly changing digital economy. The digital economy accounts for around 4.3 per cent of the UAE's GDP. Technology is essential in Dubai's economy.

DIFC courts actively choose and appoint judicial experts for the new court, which will supplement existing specialized divisions such as the Technology and Construction Division and the Arbitration Division. In early 2022, an international panel of lawyers and industry experts will be appointed to write and approve new Digital Economic Court regulations. Following a 30-day public consultation period, these will be issued.

The new court for digital economy disputes will begin operations in the first quarter of 2022. The opening of the new court serves as a catalyst for the development of a new judicial support system capable of fulfilling the demands of the digital transformation process and the adoption of cutting-edge technology.Dubai International Financial Centre Courts establishes a specialized court for the Digital Economy
